Reheat only pizza that was handled and stored safely. An oven suits several slices, a microwave is convenient for a single portion, and an air fryer can suit a small batch. Heating time varies with slice thickness, topping load and the appliance, so a food thermometer is more reliable than a fixed minute count.
Check storage first
USDA advises refrigerating perishable leftovers within two hours, or one hour when the temperature is above 90°F. Keep the refrigerator at 40°F or below. Properly refrigerated leftovers can generally be kept for three to four days. Reheat leftovers to 165°F. If the pizza was left out too long, discard it rather than trying to rescue it by reheating.
Oven method
- Use an oven-safe tray and follow your appliance guidance.
- Arrange slices without stacking. Thick deep-dish slices may need a gentler, longer heating cycle than thin crust.
- Check the centre with a thermometer. Continue heating until it reaches 165°F; watch the crust to avoid burning.
- Remove carefully and allow the slice to cool enough to handle.
Microwave method
Place the slice on a microwave-safe plate. Heat in short cycles, checking between cycles. Rotate or reposition it where appropriate so the middle does not remain cold. Check the temperature in more than one spot. This is a convenience method and may leave the crust softer than oven reheating.
Air fryer method
Follow the appliance’s instructions for reheating cooked food. Place slices in a single layer without obstructing airflow, check frequently and use a thermometer to confirm the centre reaches 165°F. Avoid foil or accessories that the appliance manufacturer does not allow. A thick stuffed rim may heat differently from the middle.
Frozen slices
Follow safe thawing or direct-reheating instructions rather than leaving slices on the counter. Our freezing guide explains wrapping, labelling and thawing choices.
Questions
Can I reheat in the delivery box? Use a suitable cooking container. Do not put ordinary packaging into an oven, air fryer or microwave unless it is explicitly labelled safe for that use.
Can smell prove pizza is safe? Do not use appearance or smell as a substitute for safe time and temperature handling.
